More Than a Knife, A Commemoration
The Spyderco World Trade Center Knife was created as a tribute to the victims of the events of September 11, 2001, and in particular to NYPD Officer John D’Allara, a Spyderco enthusiast who lost his life that day. Developed with the support of Spyderco co-founder Sal Glesser, the knife was conceived as both a practical rescue tool and a meaningful commemorative piece. Its lightweight FRN handle features a distinctive web pattern and a steel inlay made from steel salvaged from the World Trade Center, depicting the New York City skyline, a poignant detail that reflects the knife’s purpose as a tribute as much as a tool.
This knife is 100% complete and is in pristine condition. The commemorative inlay has patinated slightly but it only adds to the historic weight and authenticity of this special piece. Complete with wooden presentation box, outer box and a personal letter/certificate of authenticity signed by Sal himself.
"This is not merely a piece of Spyderco history but a piece of world history." - Mr. Narwhal
History, Craftsmanship, Remembrance
Beyond its symbolism, the knife was engineered with serious functionality in mind. The blade is crafted from CPM S30V stainless steel, which at the time represented the forefront of production knife steel technology, offering excellent edge retention and durability. It is paired with Spyderco’s Ball Bearing Lock mechanism, a robust and ambidextrous locking system designed to provide secure operation and smooth function. Each example was individually numbered and supplied in a presentation wooden box featuring a skyline cut-out, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Sal Glesser. With its blend of thoughtful engineering and historical significance, the WTC knife remains one of the most meaningful and collectible pieces in Spyderco’s history.
