Made for South Africa
The Spyderco Matriarch 2 continues the lineage of one of the most distinctive blade designs in the Spyderco catalogue. Its origins trace back to the Spyderco Civilian, a unique model developed by Sal Glesser that introduced the brand’s patented Reverse “S” blade profile. That flowing edge geometry became widely recognised for its unusual appearance and highly specialised cutting performance. The Matriarch series adapted that dramatic blade shape into a more accessible format by pairing it with the well-established handle platform of the Spyderco Endura 4. The result is a lightweight, easy-to-carry folder that preserves the Civilian’s unmistakable character while benefiting from the proven ergonomics and practicality of Spyderco’s popular Endura design.
This example is in excellent condition having seemingly never cut anything, given the pristine blade condition. There are some small scuffs on the pocketclip. No box.

Civilian DNA, Endura Practicality
Technically, the Matriarch 2 features a hollow-ground blade crafted from VG-10 stainless steel, shaped into the signature Reverse “S” profile that maximises cutting efficiency along the entire edge. The blade deploys using Spyderco’s trademark round hole for reliable one-handed opening and locks securely in place via a sturdy back lock mechanism, enhanced with a Boye dent to reduce the chance of accidental release during use. The handle is constructed from injection-moulded FRN with bi-directional texturing for excellent grip while maintaining a lightweight carry. Inside, skeletonised stainless steel liners add structural strength without excessive weight, and phosphor-bronze washers promote smooth blade action. Completing the design is a four-position pocket clip that supports left- or right-handed, tip-up or tip-down carry, making the Matriarch 2 a versatile folding knife with a truly distinctive blade profile.
