A New Chapter for Arctic Knife: Welcoming Three Rivers Manufacturing to the UK
Posted by Harley on 7th Jul 2026
If you spend any length of time immersed in the knife world, it doesn't take long before you begin hearing the same name mentioned in quietly enthusiastic conversation. Ask around amongst people who really know their knives and, sooner or later, somebody will lean in and ask, "Have you ever tried a TRM?"
Three Rivers Manufacturing has earned a rather unusual reputation. It isn't a company that shouts the loudest, floods social media with marketing campaigns or produces knives in enormous quantities. Instead, it has quietly become one of those brands that enthusiasts recommend to one another with almost evangelical conviction. For many, it remains the knife industry's best-kept secret; not because people don't want to talk about them, but because relatively few have had the opportunity to own one.
Founded in 2014 by Les and Marianne Halpern in Three Rivers, Massachusetts, TRM grew from the foundations of Halpern Titanium, a family business that had already spent nearly two decades machining precision components for many of America's best-known knife manufacturers. By the time they decided to build knives under their own name, the knowledge, experience and craftsmanship were already there. Their ambition was refreshingly simple: to produce practical everyday tools with uncompromising fit and finish, exceptional cutting performance and an attention to detail that would satisfy even the most discerning enthusiast.
Every TRM knife is designed, machined and assembled in Massachusetts using American-made materials, with premium blade steels such as MagnaCut and CPM-20CV sitting alongside machining quality that has become something of a benchmark within the industry but the specifications only tell a fraction of the story. What has always set TRM apart is the way their knives feel in use. They are remarkably slim, wonderfully light in the pocket and famous for their exceptionally thin blade geometry, allowing them to sing through material with an ease that has to be experienced to be fully appreciated.
It was that reputation that first caught my attention a couple of years ago.
Like many people, I'd heard the rumours. There was this relatively small American company making folding knives that people simply couldn't stop talking about. The descriptions were always remarkably similar: incredibly thin blades, superb ergonomics, silky smooth action and machining that bordered on obsessive. Every person who owned one seemed determined to convince everyone else to try one too.
Around the same time, a good friend of mine in the United States, whose tastes generally lean more towards Shirogorovs than Spydercos and whose judgement I trust implicitly, encouraged me to stop wondering and simply buy one. He'd been singing TRM's praises for some time, and knowing how selective he is, I suspected there was something rather special waiting to be discovered.
I picked up a second-hand Atom and I expected it to be good.
I didn't expect it to become one of those knives that simply refuses to leave your pocket.
It has accompanied me almost every day since. There isn't one dramatic feature that explains why; rather, it is the accumulation of dozens of thoughtful decisions. The blade soars through cardboard, plastic, food and just about everything else with astonishing ease, the action is satisfyingly smooth without ever feeling over-engineered, and the proportions are so well judged that carrying it becomes second nature. Nothing feels exaggerated or designed merely to catch the eye. Everything has been refined with the simple aim of making the knife a better companion for everyday life. A knife enthusiasts knife.
Hand a TRM to somebody who genuinely appreciates knives and, almost without fail, they smile. It's an instinctive reaction. Within moments they recognise that this isn't simply another well-made folding knife; it's a tool where every detail has been carefully considered and beautifully executed. Somehow the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts, and that is surprisingly rare.
The same philosophy extends beyond the blade itself. One of TRM's most ingenious features is their hot-swappable scale system. Rather than dismantling the knife every time you fancy a change, the scales can be removed and replaced without disturbing the pivot or the action. Whether you prefer G10, Micarta, carbon fibre or beautifully machined titanium, changing the character of the knife takes only seconds, making it wonderfully adaptable while preserving the precise tolerances for which TRM has become renowned.
As impressed as I was by the knives, it didn't take long to realise that the people behind them deserved an equally glowing reputation. Les and Marianne are some of the warmest, most genuine people you could hope to meet. They have built a business with integrity at its heart, surrounded themselves with equally passionate people and created a company that genuinely believes in the products it makes. Their limited lifetime warranty is only one expression of that confidence; the real measure of the business is the respect they have earned throughout the knife community. In an industry where authenticity still counts for something, TRM has it in abundance.
It was for all of those reasons that, when Arctic Knife began looking to broaden the range of brands we represent, TRM immediately stood at the top of our list.
From the very beginning, Arctic Knife has been built by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts. We have never wanted to be simply another online retailer. We wanted to create the sort of company that we ourselves would enjoy buying from: somewhere run by people who understand why blade geometry matters, who appreciate fine machining, who get just as excited about a new steel or an ingenious lock design as the customers they're serving. The community that has grown around Arctic Knife has always been the most rewarding part of what we do, and we're immensely grateful for the support you've shown us over the years.
Which is why it gives us enormous pleasure to announce that Arctic Knife is now the sole authorised UK dealer for Three Rivers Manufacturing.
To say we're excited would be something of an understatement.
Our first shipment has now arrived, bringing with it a wonderful selection of TRM knives, scales and accessories, and we couldn't be happier to finally make this remarkable brand readily available to enthusiasts here in the UK. Production at TRM's small Massachusetts factory remains deliberately limited, and that's part of what makes the company so special, but we're looking forward to working closely with Les, Marianne and the team to bring regular deliveries to British customers for many years to come.
If you've been curious about TRM but have never had the opportunity to own one, there has never been a better time. Equally, if you're already one of the many enthusiasts who understand why these knives enjoy such a devoted following, we think you'll be delighted to see them finally represented properly here in the UK.
Our first collection is now available to browse at Arctic Knife - TRM, and if there is a particular model, scale or configuration that you can't currently see, please do get in touch. We'll always do our utmost to help.
We've also launched the Arctic Knife UK TRM Club on Facebook, where we hope owners and newcomers alike can share photographs, discuss new releases, compare scale combinations and celebrate one of America's finest family-owned knife makers. We'd be delighted if you joined us.
For us, this partnership feels like a natural meeting of two companies that care deeply about the same things: thoughtful design, uncompromising quality and a genuine enthusiasm for the community that surrounds great knives. We couldn't be more proud to represent Three Rivers Manufacturing in the United Kingdom, and we have a feeling this is only the beginning of a very exciting journey.
