Leo Espinoza's Wild Pig Hunter
The TOPS Knives Wild Pig Hunter is a distinctive fixed-blade design from the Idaho-based American maker, created by Leo Espinoza around the demanding requirements of big-game hunting and outdoor use. Rather than following the proportions of a conventional hunting knife, the Wild Pig Hunter has a long, purpose-designed blade with a strong point and substantial construction, giving it an unmistakable presence. This example is particularly appealing with its brown canvas Micarta handle scales, whose natural texture and understated colour complement TOPS' characteristic Black River Wash finish. As with the wider TOPS range, the Wild Pig Hunter is made and hand-finished in the USA, reflecting the company's emphasis on straightforward, robust designs built around real-world outdoor experience.
This example is in excellent condition with a couple of light scratches towards the tip and some light patina. Complete with original leather sheath. No box.
"An awesome, purpose built blade. Impressive and imposing." - Mr. Narwhal
American-Made, Uncompromising Design
The 7.5-inch blade is ground from 1/4-inch-thick 1095 high-carbon steel and finished in TOPS' distinctive Black River Wash, a treatment that leaves the heat-treat line visible along the cutting edge and gives the blade a deliberately rugged, individual appearance. The steel is heat treated to approximately 56–58 HRC, offering the toughness and straightforward maintenance characteristics for which 1095 is valued in a substantial fixed blade. Full-tang construction runs through the brown canvas Micarta scales, which feature TOPS' Rocky Mountain Tread pattern for a secure, tactile grip. At 13 inches overall and approximately 14.2 oz before the sheath, the Wild Pig Hunter is an imposing yet carefully considered design, supplied with a USA-made vegetable-tanned leather sheath. It is a particularly distinctive example of the uncompromising, hand-finished character that has made TOPS a recognised name among fixed-blade enthusiasts.
